This website traverse through generations.

The objective of this site is the sharing of China's beauty, its vast History and its rich Language and Chinese Characters. The motivation behind 杨丕源 Yang Piyuan's quest can be captured in the 成语 Chinese Idiom:

丕承先志 "To honourably continue the unfinished work of one's forebears." In particular, his maternal grandfather had always wanted to visit China but died without fulfilling his dream.

The photos of 杨丕源 Yang Piyuan's travel from the 1990s on are real.

However, the stories that are spun around his travels are fictitious.

Photos that are artificially generated are labelled so (AI generated).

Millions of kilometers away, planet Earth looks like “”A Pale Blue Dot" - this is according to Carl Sagan in his book of the same title.

Looking at his simple plastic globe, 杨丕源 Yang Piyuan thought of the book as he peered at the tiny dot that represented the city he was living in.

He knew the world was too big for him to travel to each and every part of it. There exists more than 190 countries.  The number of countries he had visited countries totaled only a tenth of that number.

He was also aware that he lived in an era the opportunity to go to the outer space was confined only to those who were ultra-rich and famous.

And, time travel was a fantasy.

So, with the limitation of resources, he knew he could only (and must) achieve this in his lifetime.

1. travel to all states of the country he was born in.

2. travel to all the provinces and territories of his ancestral country, 中国 China.

杨丕源 Yang Piyuan was guided by a number of philosophical ideas in his quest.

The following is one of them:

读万卷书, 行万里路

He wanted to also embark on journeys of the mind, in addition to visiting places physically. He would then no longer be limited to time an material resources.

Unlike the body, there was no scarcity in the places where the mind could travel to.

Modes of transport facilitate the physical journey.

Languages enhances the imagination required for the mind to travel freely.

Having grown up reading, writing and working with the English Language, he realised that the mastery of the Chinese language is key to his travel pursuits. This would be crucial for him in his later years as his physical body grew weaker.
